ORIGINS AND ETYMOLOGY
Astro-English: from Astronese, the word desolation is used in the context of the debate on extraterrestrial life’s existence in Astronism to denote “a cosmos without life except that on Earth”, and with the addition of the suffix -ology, denoting “an area of study”, altogether this means “the study of the prospect of a cosmos devoid of life.”
